Ah this day sounds like the pits- it’s time to crawl under the covers and call it. Hope tomorrow is better! But one follow up question: is your son any good at the American accent? I had a brief fantasy of speaking exclusively in a British accent to my oldest when she was small just so I could hear her speak in an accent for my own amusement. Got too lazy and I’m crap at it, but I still think it’s a funny idea.
I did for a while—though I had more fun with the books since it gave me a chance to practice my own. Same thing with Harry Potter! I don’t know why but it really amped up the bedtime reading practice to have a self-competition on how well I could roll my R’s and master the lilt.
*spots young Mum who appears to be going through a topsy turvy day and gives her my best, most supportive and knowing smile.
I actually did that to a Mum in the Botanic Gardens today who was rocking her crying baby for a while, trying for the baby to sleep. She smiled back and I thought of you. I hope it relaxed her a little.
I'm sure it did! It always helps to get a smile from someone when one of the little ones is having 'big feelings,' otherwise I find you just sit there wondering if everyone is judging you/them!
This pretty much sums it up. Glimmers of joy, smattered with various calamities, and a portion of mum guilt. Basically every day. Love the mundane midweek ♥️
This post about the mundane had be chuckle more that some of those so-called comedy specials. Would love to read more of the mundane and I do hope and pray that not 'everything keeps going wrong'. Amazing writing, Charlotte!
Thanks for sharing this adrenaline rush of a day. I have a three month old and they are fairly predictable, but based on what you are sharing I know that things will eventually get far more complicated. Yay!
More complicated, yes, but also even more joyful and, at times, absolutely hilarious. Hope everything is going well with your three month old, how have you found the adjustment?
The adjustment has been challenging, honestly. Having a child requires completely reframing your life. That's what I have learned. There is very little free time now because everything revolves around her. At times that is hard because it can feel that you are losing some parts of your individuality, which you are, but you accept it as a necessary sacrifice for living for a higher purpose; i.e. taking care of your child.
Oh I’ve been there, for sure. It’s such a common thought process, and the transition can be a real struggle. It does get easier, generally. (And if it doesn’t, speaking to someone about it can really help)
I love this so much. The mundane days either turn magical or frazzled and sometimes end up being a little bit of both somehow? Reading the humor in your writing with a cup of coffee is always a good start to the day!
I had one of those frazzled days today where everything went wrong and everyone was grumpy from lack of smell, and then on the bus home a lady complimented me on my children and how calm I was looking after three. I was pleasantly astonished, very much hoping I'll remember to do the same for other tired mums when I'm older!
Love the mundane midweek idea and would totally read/partake. We all have days like this. Having to wear a jumper on a hot day would’ve probably been the worst bit for me, though I don’t contend with school stuff yet!
Shall we start a petition to get mundane midweek to stay? Absolutely loved this
If the mood strikes, I'll bring it back. Thank you!
I love how you wrote about a normal but up and down day with such candour and humour. You're writing always makes me smile and nod along.
Ah thank you for your kind words. The up and down days have the best comedic moments, I find. Helps to look on the funny side of things!

You know what, it's quite a convincing accent! I have no idea where it's come from though, it's hilarious.
Do you remember when all those little kids started speaking in British accents because they'd watched too much Peppa Pig? You could always try that?

Amazing. I tried to master a Scottish accent in my twenties, for absolutely no reason whatsoever, so can relate

Yep, every single day. Thank you ♥️

Thank you so much, Yash! I think it was just one of those days, the world has reset (for now)
Deeply relate to so much of this day xx
Solidarity!
Phew. You need a breather after that, Charlotte!
Everything resettled after bedtime, as is usually the way!

Loved this. All living the same lives really, aren’t we 😂😭 xxx
We absolutely are 😂

Thanks so much, Ashton. They definitely do end up being a bit of everything, most days are like this but I wouldn't change (most of) it 😂

Ah amazing, those comments can really turn things around can't they!

To be fair, it wasn't even that warm, it was just textbook British behaviour of “sun's out, let's pretend it boiling!”
You should do it, it's amazing the small details you get down that you would have forgotten otherwise
